What To Expect In The Design Process

Let’s face it… if you are building a house you are probably an HGTV, Houzz, Pinterest junkie like most of us, but what should you REALLY expect during the finish selection process with Logan Homes?

Most people are nervous about the selection process, in which newly contracted clients spend a day with a design specialist choosing every detail for the interior and exterior of their soon-to-be-real dream home.

Rest assured, that our professional interior designers can guide even the most nervous clients through the process AND make it fun!  Our Design Studio was created so that everything needed to build your home is located in one space so home owners don’t have to run from one subcontractor’s showroom to another’s and hope all their selections coordinate well together.  We have thousands of available options but we believe that even with all standard features, our homes are not only beautiful, but fully functional, as proven by our many models homes. Our interior designers are here to guide you through the selections process, filtering selections and help you build a home around your style; they will use their trained eyes to ensure all your colors, textures and style choices flow together seamlessly.

Interior Selection Process

Our designers start by helping future home owners choose their selections for the heart of the home: the kitchen.  Homeowners will choose hardwoods, cabinets, countertops, sink style, cabinet hardware and faucet.  Many homeowners choose to personalize their kitchens by adding a tile backsplash or cabinet add-ons like roll-out shelves depending on their personal cooking preferences.

Next, our designers will guide homeowners in choosing everything for the master en suite bathroom. This will include cabinets, countertops, sink shape, cabinet hardware, faucet, tile, and even tiny details like tile pattern, grout color and toilet color.  After focusing on the two most-used rooms, finishes for the other bathrooms will be selected.  Lighting and paint colors are a big focus areas where our designers’ keen eyes come in handy.  After choosing paint, other small details like interior door style, fireplace (if chosen as an option) and trim seem to fall together effortlessly based on the established style of the home.  Selection samples are laid out together to create a collage which helps ensure that all styles and colors will flow together when the home is constructed.

Exterior Selection Process

With many model homes and communities to drive by for inspiration, our designers often rely on model references or photos of our existing homes to get the exterior selection process started.  Coordinating brick, paint or vinyl with shingles and metal roof accents (when applicable) is the biggest part of the process.  If painted siding is involved, our designers know to take our clients on a “field trip” outside the Design Studio to look at paint samples since paint color will be greatly affected by natural light.  The designer rule of thumb is that all paint is four times lighter and brighter outside.  After the main choices have been made, home owners will choose many small details like window pattern, front door style and color, garage doors style, porch flooring, porch ceiling color, gutter color and exterior lighting.  Exterior selections are laid out in another collage to help our home owners envision the final product.
