Spring in the Port City - Wilmington, NC

Winter has gone, and spring is in full bloom! Now is the perfect time to break out of the winter-blues for a romantic or family fun getaway or stay-cation to the Port City of Wilmington.

The Port City's unique qualities will draw you into its history to explore days gone by or dive into the social  and entertainment arena. 

Cape Fear Community College Wilson Center and Thalian Hall can quickly have your reminiscing of memories with special people or making new ones as you connect with timeless classics on stage through theatrical productions local and from Broadway as well as music sensations from the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson to rock sensation Rick Springsteen.

Parking is convenient with several deck park areas spread throughout the historic district and all in easy walking distance to the waterfront area where you can savor a taste from the farm to the table cuisine, enjoy an hour at a local pub and of course a pitstop to enjoy a refreshing treat at Kilwin’s Chocolates and Ice creams. Undecided on which treat? You can never go wrong with any flavor - but the butter pecan ice cream in a waffle cone is definitely one of our favorites!

Strolling along the historic district waterfront area you can visit our local artisan stores, take a narrated carriage ride while catching glimpses of the magnificent churches and 1800’s homes or unwind on a park bench and enjoy the breathtaking views of the Cape Fear River which is home to the USS Battleship NC, and open to the public.  

Venturing a little further down Carolina Beach, Fort Fisher offers something for the sea life lover or Civil War buff. This can be enjoyed on a sunny or rainy day.

Couples or families can venture over the NC Fort Fisher/Southport ferry and enjoy a day or afternoon exploring the beautiful Historic Southport, NC with its unique shops and restaurants. Southport has also been home to a few movies and television shows, becoming the backdrop for Nicholas Sparks’ Safe Haven film and more recently, Stephen King's Under The Dome.
