Wilmington NC May 2019 May Area Events

As the weather is warming up, so is the historic district of downtown Wilmington.  The month of May is going to be jam packed with things to do for any interest you may have.  From one-time events to events that will run through all the summer months, Wilmington will have everything you need to fill your warm days with fun activities.  You can find a list of many of these events coming up in May at the Wilmington River District & Island Beaches website. 

We are highlighting just a few of the events coming to the area 

FOR THE VINTAGE CAR ENTHUSIAST…

For all of our vintage car lovers, check out the the 15th anniversary of Rims on the River.  This three-day event is held on May 17th through May 19th, and you can either sign up to enter your car or just come out and join the fun in viewing some of the best vintage cars around.  

If you can’t make this event, don’t fret, there is another car show this month, called Brits At the Battleship that will be just as fun!

FOR THE BOAT AND HISTORY BUFF…

The history just keeps getting better and better with the next event.  Head out from May 9th through the 19th to visit the historic Nao Santa María. This will be a self-guided tour where you can go through and read the informative panels about this historic boat and how the crew used to live 500 years ago.  After you are done seeing that ship, you can head on over the see the NC Battleship for a presentation and exploration of one of the 10 fastest battleships built.

PLANS FOR MOTHER’S DAY…

We couldn’t forget about the most important day in May, and neither did Wilmington Water Tours.  You can treat your mother to a nice relaxing cruise down the Cape Fear River on a very special day just for her.  You both can enjoy not only desert and a frozen drink/cocktail, but also all of the beautiful views that the Cape Fear River has to offer.

FOR THE MUSIC AND SPORTS LOVERS….

Wilmington definitely rounds out the end of the month with the startup of the Wilmington Sharks baseball and their spectacular Downtown Sundown Concert Series.  Both of these events start at the end of March and will continue through all of the summer months.  These two events are a staple for Wilmington and are sure to be a hit for all ages.
